Even amidst the chaos in the world right now, there is one common thread for all of us celebrating Easter. It will be an Easter like no other. No Honey Baked Ham for us, a tradition. No walking into the doors of a church decorated with Easter lilies. No big Easter egg hunts with children laughing and running around. No big family crawfish boils. No Easter Bunny pictures. Yes, this Easter will not be like any other we have ever experienced.

I want to share some of my favorite past easy Easter treats with you. These treats are easy to make using simple pantry ingredients, since pantry cooking is the common method nowadays. In fact, due to the safety of shopping and the long delivery times, a friend of mine has used the quarantine as a great excuse, aka learning tool. After all, if everybody has to be staying at home to stay safe, doesn’t that include the Easter Bunny, too? I don’t know about you, but I sure want him (or her) to stay healthy.

My hope for this post is that if your house is void of Easter treats, there will be one in here that can be made and enjoyed with your family or quarantine partner. We all may be away from our community at the time, but getting into the kitchen with loved ones just might be the community we need this Easter.

Put on Your TO COOK IS TO CREATE Thinking Cap: Don’t have any Easter candy? Search your pantry and use what you have on hand. No Peeps? Use marshmallows. No chocolate bunny? Use chocolate chips or any chocolate candy. No cookies? No biscuits? Use crescent dough or your favorite bread dough. No cookies? Use graham crackers. No jelly beans? Use skittles or candy corn.

FOOD FUN: I have heard of many neighborhoods doing the Teddy bear hunt and now many are doing an Easter Egg Hunt. Neighbors put brightly colored cut out eggs on doors, windows, and mailboxes for families to ride by and pick them out. I can imagine children shouting out when they spot one, it might almost sound like the old game of punch bug…without the punch, of course. If there is no Easter egg hunt in your neighborhood, start one or make one within your yard and house. Stay Safe and Healthy.
